Let’s deal with the brand-new telescope, the James Webb telescope, which has lifted off from the launch pad of the Guiana Space Center last year, on Christmas day, and was carried by an Ariane 5 rocket from the ESA.

The telescope was folded up to fit neatly inside the nose of the rocket; once in space, it has first deployed its huge sunshield which is the size of a tennis court and then, its mirror segments were moved into position alongside the primary mirrors.

Finally, 13 days after launch the telescope was fully deployed and assumed its fixed orbital position enabling observations scheduled to start six months after launch.

Indeed, on July, the 17th the super telescope proved itself by revealing its first picture, which is actually the deepest image of the cosmos ever captured. Humanity has never seen so far back and so clearly into the depths of the universe’s history.

Scores of unnamed galaxies you see here actually emitted their light more than 13 billion years ago, mere cosmic moments after the Big Bang. Thus, “we are going back further” explained Bill Nelson the Nasa Administrator when the president of the USA, Joe Biden was showed the sharp picture.

This one image and the countless others that come have been the result of more than 2 decades of focused efforts by a collaboration between the world’s greatest scientists and engineers from NASA, ESA and CSA.

This machine, is a one-of-a-kind observatory built to unveil how the universe first began to shine and much, much more. It’s the largest and most ambitious space telescope ever made and promises to produce one of the most incredible discoveries of our lifetime and beyond, and I’m very excited to see how it will end.
