Myths and Heroes

I'm going to talk about the notion of myths and heroes. First of all a myth is a traditional story concerning the early history of people or explaining a natural or social phenomenon. A hero is a person or a superhuman who is admired for his/her courage, outstanding achievements. It can be a modern-day hero like role model or national hero. In class we studied several documents about the Jazz Age. To what extent are the Roaring Twenties mythical? To illustrate this notion I have chosen to talk about the mythical jazz age, the prohibition and the mod and finally the important figures

First of all in class we saw a video clip by Will-I-am Bang Bang, the video clip reproduces visually the 1920’s. When we think of the 20’s we think about the jazz, the charleston dances the upbeat rhythms. In the clip there is all the visual elements that make the viewer think the scene is taking place in the 1920’s. It’s important to note that the song is part of the adaptation of the great gatsby by Fitzgerald.

Except the music the jazz age is also known for the parties. Even if the Great Gatsby is a book Fitzgerald transpose the way of life of the rich. in class we saw the point of view of Nick the novel’s narrator when we arrived the first time at gatsby’s house for a party we was amazed bc ppl were really enthusiastic the party was really spectacular and there was a lot of alcohol. Paradoxically what made the 20's so mythical is not only dance, music or parties but also prohibition and mafia

The prohibition is the 18th amendment of the us constitution, this law forbid alcohol in the usa but this law have some consequences like the proliferation of speakeasies, creation of black markets and more and more bootleg by the mob.

The mob was very present, it has committed a lot of crimes, mafia was the Businessman of the usa , mafia was managing the illegal trade the mob was also known for the leader al capone.

Al capone still very famous like others persons of the 20’s

A bit earlier we talk about Francis Fitzgerald he still now a famous american writer, he was one of the pioneers of the lost generation a post-war literary movement. The flappers are also very famous those are women who dropped the corset, chopped their hair, dropped layers of clothing to increase ease of movement, wore make-up, created the concept of dating, and became more than just mothers. Louis Armstrong was an American trumpeter, composer, singer who was one of the most influential figures in jazz during the 20’s and a long time after

To conclude the roaring twenties are very famous thanks to the way of life of the people the music the dances they were more independent
