I turned 97 today and i know that I only have some months left to live. That's why I wanted to share with you guys, from where I got the inspiration for Forrest Gump.

My little brother had a genetic disorder called the down syndrome also known as trisomy 21. He wanted to do something with his life. Something very great. And that's why he inspired me so much, he never gave up on anything. He treated people well, tried to help them even though those person didn't deserved it. He was the kind of person who sees the good in everything and everyone.

He went to school, which was super unlikely most of mentally disabled persons of her age. There, he became friend with Jenny Curran, who by the way helped me to write this book, and who unlike the others children immediately became friend with Ness

Nes was very fast, because he used to run after me, but also, because he often tried to escape some bullies who were chasing him after school. Thanks to them, he became the fastest person of the family, and even got into an American-Football club at the age of 12.

Nes was my ultimate bestfriend. I could tell him eveything, he could tell me everything and viceversa. He always talked about the future; about what he'd like to experience such as being an All-American player, meeting three Presidents, maybe become a US champion of Karate? Ping-Pong? Anyways, something that he thought he'd never be able to do. Or perhaps, receiving the Congressional Medal of Honour and a lot of other ones. He wanted to become someone special, someone who'd floats through life so effortlessly by simply living and going with the flow. He wanted to change the world, to serve his country.

Unfortunately, Nes died at the age of 19. He died because he had extra chromosomes; he didn't deserved this. He deserved to live the life she always told me about, he deserved to die at a very old age, to have him own family. But unfortunately, no one said life was fair.

I was devasted, 1940 was a terrible year for me. And I didn't wanted him to die in vain. I wanted people to talk about him, I wanted people to know that mentally disabled persons can do things of their lifes, that they could have a future. That's why I decided to start writing Forrest Gump. Why Forrest? Because Forrests were part of his favourites places and Gump was her favourite character's name.

I wanted people to learn from Forrest Gump what i've learnt from Nes. I wanted them to know it's important to listen to their heart and to always reacts to their gut instinct, even if it may get them nto trouble. But I also wanted people to cherish friendship, just like Nes did with Jenny. There was no friendship like theirs. He taught me that a friendship comes from two sides without costing any effort and everything flows naturally, and that we shouldn't  take that for granted. “Life is like a box of chocolates: You never know what you’re gonna get.”. You remember that quote right? In fact, it's not our mom who told us this. It was Ness. It all came out from her mounth.  Live life with an open mind, as you never know what doors may open to you. But most importantly, she taught me that you should work hard : if you wanna do something, then you'll just have to be for the things you truly want in life, and that involves working hard! And someday, it will truly pay off.
