THE CONTEXT OF THE SITUATION

Managerial context: 

The French National Railway Company (SNCF) was created on January 1st, 1938. It is a railroad company which handles the business of railroad transport of travelers and goods but it is also an exploitation of maintenance, for RFF (French National Railroad Network).It consists of 5 business sectors: the management of the infrastructure (INFRA SNCF), local transport (Proximity SNCF), the long distance journeys (SNCF Travels), the logistic of goods (GEODIS SNCF) and the management of stations (Stations and Connections).

Organizational context:

The EIC of Lorraine, the Infra Circulation Establishment of the SNCF (FRENCH NATIONAL RAILWAY COMPANY) constantly wishes to improve its collaboration with the border countries. That is why a meeting was decided with our German counterparts. I had to manage the organization of this project. The dialogue was in English.

To set up this meeting, I was in touch with the DB Netz which is the similarity of our establishment in Germany

• Before:

• Mailing to inform the hour of the meeting.
• Mailing with a map to come from the station to our establishment.

• During:

• The agents of RFF welcomed the agents of DB Netz at the station.
• I waited for them at the bottom of our establishment.
• I welcomed them
• I brought them to the meeting room.
• I informed them about the fact that the translator was not able to come, so the meeting would take place in English.
• Around a buffet, each person introduced itself.
• During the meeting between the agents of RFF and those of the EIC, a lot of developments in French had often taken place, thus they were sure to understand the same thing and when it was not the case, they asked questions.

• After:

• I made the German agents visiting the building.

EVALUATION OF THE RELATION

The meeting took place in due course. The German agents were able to discover the French functioning.
