This text is an adaptation from an online article found on www.takepart.com. It was published on April 5, 2010.

It deals with a militant and teenager who is actively involved in the reduction of the trash of unwanted electronic products.

As for the main protagonist,his name is Alex Lin. He is American and lives in Westerly, in Rhode Island. In addition, he is16 and is attending high school senior which is the last year in high school.

This text highlights the fact that Alex is an activist. Actually, being an activist means being closely interested in a cause and getting involved in the fighting for change. Here, the young man has been an activist since a very young age and he became one after reading a newspaper.

In fact, the text is about an important environmental issue which is techwaste. Indeed, people have been throwing away more and more electronic devices and a majority of them are not being recycled. Moreover getting rid of electronic devices can be hazardous.

To tackle this problem, Alex and his team created an e-waste recycling drive/collection. Besides they established a permanent container that collects e-waste. They also sent out flyers, made radio announcements, wrote articles and made presentations on front of students and town council audiences to raise awareness of this issue.

On top of that they donated more than 300 repaired computers to low-income students without home computer access, the ones who benefited from their refurbishing initiative and the team members really enjoyed it and said it was an astonishing and amazing experience.

Lin and his team’s action has led to a bill which states that “ it is now illegal to dump electronics in Rhone Island”.
